Examples of Thor's Hammer being used to bless / Vigja

Here are a couple of examples of Thor with vígja or consecrating / blessing as evident in Old Germanic tradition. One from the Edda's and one from an Old English charm.

In verse 30 of Þrymskviða we see Thor retrieving his Hammer from a Jotan by dressing as a bride in order to be blessed by his Hammer as is the custom at weddings. Shortly after this verse Thor despatches the Jotans in his usual custom!

Then said Thrymr,

the lord of the ogres:

“Bring the hammer to bless the bride;

place Mjöllnir on the maid’s lap;

bless us together with Vár’s hand.”

This excerpt was written in Runes as part of the Canterbury charm. It shows Thunor's Hammer used in a blessing to heal a wound. I'm surprised the xtians allowed this piece of our Old English heritage to survive.

Gyril wound-causer,

go now! You are found.

May Thor bless you lord of ogres!

Gyril wound-causer.

Against blood-vessel pus.
